Those of you with more time than sense may have been unfortunate enough to catch Panorama this evening (28th June) on BBC1. One of our regular visitors did, and has complained to the BBC about it. He sent us the text of his complaint ... Today's Panorama programme about the Global Warming debate purported to examine both sides of the debate, both those scientists who are convinced that the world is warming and that mankind is the cause, and those who doubt this interpretation and believe either that the world is not warming at all, or that if it is this is a natural process that has happened many times before, or that external forces (namely, the sun's activity) are causative. It also proposed to examine what the public make of this debate. In fact it did neither. The programme was simply an advertisement for man-made Global Warming. At no stage was there serious consideration of the alternatives – that the world is not warming, or that while it is warming the cause is not human activity. At no stage was there any exposition of the science that refutes global warming; for instance, there was no rebuttal of the hockey-stick graph, there was no mention of solar activity, there was no mention of inconvenient truths like the Arctic being warmer in the 1930s than it is now, there was no mention of the fact that the expected rises in sea level have not so far taken place. While Michael Mann (the discredited scientist whose flawed hockey-stick graph did so much damage to scientific truth and honesty) was able to speak his piece, there was no place in the programme for any serious climate scientists who oppose the global warming orthodoxy – Bjorn Lomborg is a statistician, not a climate scientist. The programme made the tacit assumption throughout that man-made global warming is a reality, and when it came to examine public attitudes to the debate it was patronising and simplistic in the extreme. Asking a group of petrol-heads to put stickers on a board, or interviewing one couple in their home, is not exactly penetrative journalism, is it? And the gist of the interview with the couple near the end of the programme was not about whether global warming is happening, but simply assumed that it is and asked them what they're going to do about it. Where were the many thousands of intelligent, thoughtful people who have taken a close interest in this debate and formed their own opinions about it instead of just accepting what the government, the IPCC, the BBC or Al Gore told them to believe? Where was Lord Monckton? Where was Mark Morano? Where was Nigel Lawson? Where was the other point of view? The GOS says: If you want to know just how much disarray the global warmers are in, and how the real debate is going, you really need to visit Mark Morano's Climate Depot website. By the way, did you hear that Al Gore, the Saviour of the World, has narrowly escaped criminal charges for sexual assault? Couldn't happen to a nicer guy. Read about it here. either on this site or on the World Wide Web. Copyright © 2010 The GOS |
